Why this role exists

Most small and medium-sized businesses have heard endlessly about AI. Very few know what it actually means for their shop floor, their back office, or their customers, or where to even start.

We help them figure that out. A&O delivers hands-on AI training to Ontario SMEs looking to upskill their teams on the technologies reshaping their industries, overwhelmingly AI. Think advanced manufacturing, agri-food, construction, and mining: real companies making real things, ready to move but unsure how. Much of this work is grant-supported, so cost is rarely the barrier. Clarity and confidence are.

We're looking for a trainer/educator who can walk into a room (virtual or in person) full of skeptical, busy, practical people and leave them genuinely excited, and equipped, to start using AI. This is education, not consulting. You're not there to hand them a roadmap and a bill. You're there to move the needle on what they understand, what they're comfortable with, and what they can do next.

What you'd be doing

Delivering "art of the possible" AI sessions that meet non-technical teams exactly where they are: no jargon, no hype, no doom.
Running a light discovery before each engagement so the training actually fits the company in front of you. A bakery, a fabrication shop, and a food distributor should not get the same generic deck.
Teaching hands-on: showing people practical AI tools and workflows they can apply the Monday after, and building their confidence to keep going.
Occasionally delivering more specific training, e.g. helping a team get real value out of AI features already baked into software they've bought.
Helping us gauge impact: simple ways to check that comfort and capability actually went up by the end.
Working with our team on session materials, examples, and exercises tailored to each sector.

Who you are

You're an educator first. You could explain a large language model to someone's operations manager using a metaphor about their own business, and they'd get it. Specifically:

You've taught, trained, facilitated, or coached adults, and you're good at it. People remember your sessions.
You genuinely understand today's AI tools and what they can (and can't) do for a working business. You don't need to be an ML engineer, but you need to be credible and current.
You can read a room, handle skepticism with warmth, and adjust on the fly.
You're comfortable working with practical, non-tech industries and speaking their language.
You're reliable, self-directed, and easy to work with. You'll often be representing A&O directly to a client.

Nice to have: experience in or exposure to advanced manufacturing, agri-food, construction, or mining; experience with grant-supported or publicly funded training.

The details

Engagement: Contract / freelance, per engagement. Deal flow is variable, so this is not a fixed-hours role.
Location: Remote, anywhere in Canada. Delivery is mostly virtual. The occasional in-person session with an Ontario client is a plus if you can travel, but not required.
Rate: $40 to $60 per hour, depending on experience and scope. We're happy to talk specifics.
Who you'd work with: directly with A&O's founders, Michael and Noor, and our clients.
